Methven Contracting Ltd is owned and operated by Millan Bungard, a meticulous, hardworking operator who has been drilling local farms for over 15 years.
Millan left a successful dairy industry career in 2000 to work for Wright Farms, which at the time farmed 600ha of arable land on the outskirts of Methven. Over the last twenty years Millan has thrived in the arable industry, becoming farm manager in 2006, shareholder of a 200ha block (in partnership with John & Jane Wright) in 2008, and picking up the management of Wright Farm’s seed cleaning business in 2012; along the way developing an extensive knowledge of agronomy and agricultural machinery operator skills.
Methven Contracting was established in April 2013 when an opportunity arose to provide drilling and fertiliser spreading services to Wright Farms after part of their arable farm was converted to a dairy farm.
We now provide contact drilling services throughout the Mid Canterbury region, operating a 6m 2012 Horsch Pronto DC universal drill and a 6m 2012 John Deere 950A direct drill.
We also provide contract harvesting services via Methven Harvesting, a joint venture between ourselves and Chris Woods Contracting. A Claas Lexion 580 combine harvester was purchased in January 2014, and a second combine (Claas Lexion 670) was purchased in January 2020. Methven Harvesting services a range of clients throughout the Ashburton District.
Millan’s wife Michelle handles all the company’s administration, financials and marketing; ensuring that Methven Contracting is a professionally run agricultural contracting business.
With the assistance of HazardCo we have developed a detailed Health & Safety programme to ensure that operators and any visitors to the work site are kept safe.
Methven Contracting is a member of Rural Contractors New Zealand, the national association and the leading advocate for rural contractors in New Zealand. Through this membership we are kept up to date of industry developments, Government requirements and best business practices.
